Descriptif

As part of its temporary exhibition "Tous à la plage!", the museum is organizing a conference on the theme of postcards.

The talk will be given by Benjamin Caillaud, author and doctor of history.

From 1904 to 1914, the island of Oleron gradually opened up to seaside tourism, while the market for postcards illustrated with photographs enjoyed an international boom. The object illustrates the introduction of tourism and its consequences, while at the same time playing a full part in the phenomenon. Thanks to their media power and unique format, postcards mapped out the contours of a territory, created social figures and disseminated new representations. At the dawn of the First World War, a decade was enough for the postcard to set the main dynamics of Oleron's seaside destiny in the 20th century.

Bookings required on 05 46 75 05 16. Places limited.
