Conférence UTLMO : Ravenne, d'Orient et d'Occident
Dates & opening times
Descriptif
In the troubled history of the late Western Roman Empire, Ravenna occupies a special place for having been, during the 5th century, three times capital of the different powers governing the Italian peninsula. The most brilliant period was that of the 5th-6th centuries, dominated by Theodoric, ruler of the Ostrogoth kingdom, who was succeeded by Justinian, Emperor of Constantinople. It was during this period that the city saw the construction of numerous monuments adorned with sumptuous gold mosaics by Byzantine artists. This exceptional heritage is unique in Italy.
