Domaine de la Cailletière et son pigeonnier
Dates & opening times
Descriptif
In the 16th century, the Cailletière estate was a seigneurial dwelling which, according to the description of the time, consisted of a large mansion with several rooms on the ground and second floors, a bordier's (ploughman's) dwelling and cellars, burners, livestock and poultry pens.
The dovecote, or "fuire" in saintongeais dialect, is located on the right-hand side of the estate. The lower part of the octagonal body is topped by a low cylindrical tower. The roofline suggests that it was pointed and probably covered with slate. The 1780 nesting boxes or burons often corresponded to the surface area of the estate.
Today, the Domaine de la Cailletière is a living space where cultural projects, shared gardens and artistic creations come together.
