Eglise Saint-Trojan-les-Bains
Dates & opening times
Descriptif
The present-day church of Saint-Trojan-les-Bains, built of ashlar, dates from the second half of the 18th century, replacing an earlier edifice built in medieval times and covered, like the old village, by sands blown in by westerly winds.
The stones of the old church were used to rebuild the new place of worship, with the exception of the bell tower.
In 1824, a bell tower was installed. The wooden altars with columns and pediments were replaced in 1962 by a white stone altar.
The church contains paintings by Omer Charlet, an ex-voto of the captain of the André Félix, shipwrecked in 1847, and a model of the Victory commanded by Admiral Nelson.
