Descriptif

The site is ideal for storing the materials needed for its construction and for setting up barracks to house the workers.

The village is bordered to the north by the Saumonards forest and to the south by the Fort Royer oyster-farming site. The large sandy beach, with its breathtaking view of Fort Boyard, characterizes the area. The tranquil lake is ideal for family bathing. The marina has 200 moorings.

The village has long been a major cargo port. Trade, and more broadly the economy, was the primary reason for Oleron-continent crossings.

At the end of the 19th century, the Delmas-Frères company linked La Rochelle and Boyardville with steamships carrying up to 300 people. Dresses with petticoats and large hats made their appearance on the island of Oleron.

Today, La Rochelle can still be reached by sea. And there are plenty of opportunities to tour Fort Boyard or stop off at Ile d'Aix from Boyardville.
