Descriptif
They feature wooden shutters on a metal frame, cast-iron or metal posts and columns, and a zinc roof. Large skylights let the light in. This type of architecture, and these materials, were very much in vogue at the time.
The first restoration, in the 1980s, took the halls away from their original architecture.
A second renovation, entrusted to La Rochelle architect Sophie Blanchet - in 2013 - was a success, restoring the building to its former glory. A modification was made on the rue Dubois Meynardie side, with the roof extending into an awning for outdoor but covered unpacking, rather like a kiosk.
A weekly market takes place here every morning on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm.
