Descriptif
Located in the commune of Saint Denis d'Oléron, not far from the hamlet of Les Huttes, the Marais Papineau is an important nature and ornithological reserve on the island of Oléron.
In this typical wetland landscape, depending on the season, you'll be able to observe numerous birds nesting or stopping over. If you're lucky, you'll spot otters, grey herons, ducks, mallards, greylag geese, gulls and seagulls.
The flora, meanwhile, is rich. Between the reedbeds, you'll find a host of species, including the great moor, ophioglossus buttercup, marsh orchid and Byzantine gladiolus.
A cycle path runs alongside this exceptional natural area, allowing you to appreciate its value.
