The Orchard House
Dates & opening times
Descriptif
While the house is centered on the very large living/dining room (with cathedral ceiling and part of the exposed framework, but also - and notably - modern audio/video equipment), it nevertheless opens onto the fitted/equipped kitchen, the terrace (with garden furniture and deckchairs), and the garden/garden... on the other, onto the two bright and very pleasantly appointed bedrooms (one of which has a cot and baby chair).
Access to the bicycle paths is just 50 meters from the house. The ocean and its immense beaches (east coast) are a 10-minute bike ride away (3 kms). You can also cycle (7 kms) to the west coast for a very long walk along the endless beaches and/or the Chemin de la Côte Sauvage... or go sand yachting, windsurfing, kit-surfing. Or sandcastles!
The center of the old village (with old-fashioned covered market, supermarket/bakery, bar/tobacco shop, restaurants, tourist office, money point, post office, 11th-century medieval church with concerts in summer) is just a 3-minute walk (250 meters), the Aire de Loisirs des Prés Valet (miniature harbor with miniature boats for children, Boum Badaboum park, etc.) a 10-minute walk (900 meters). The village of Cheray (with post office, media library, small supermarket, butcher's, baker's and stores) is 10 minutes by bike / 5 minutes by car.
Saint-Georges-d'Oléron is 17 kms north of Château d'Oléron (citadel, fortified enclosure, oyster huts transformed into artists' studios), 5.5 kms north of Saint-Pierre-d'Oléron (capital of the island - pedestrian streets, stores, supermarkets, museum, cinema, etc.).), 6 kms south of La-Brée-les-Bains (market, supermarket, bakery, café, etc.), 9 kms south of the tip of the island and Saint-Denis-d'Oléron (cliffs and "le bout du monde" lighthouse, marina, bars-restaurants, etc.).
