The Green Attitude


For you, for us and for future generations, we manage the hotel to minimize its environmental impact as much as possible.

We support ecological initiatives based on the principles of Sustainable Development (Reduce Reuse Recycle), which we have been taking for several years, both at the hotel and in our everyday lives.


Outside :

- 120 m² of fully-integrated photovoltaic panels on the hotel roof, as well as communication relays to inform our customers of our environmental action.

- Our green spaces are maintained without pesticides and watered sparingly, in the evening, with rainwater that we recover.

- Heat pump to heat the swimming pool

- Preference given to local species in the choice of plants for the hotel garden.

- Installation of nesting boxes for birds (open your eyes and listen carefully, you won't be disappointed).

- Enhancement of nature and surrounding sites.

- Terrace equipped with deckchairs made from 100% wood from managed forests.

- The hotel parking lot has a non-waterproof surface to allow water to penetrate the ground.


Inside the hotel :

- Wood-fired heating for the hotel's common areas (wood-burning stoves)

- Water flow limiters on all hotel taps.

- Information in bathrooms offering change of towels only at guests' request.

- Recycled toilet paper

- Low-energy light bulbs throughout the hotel and lighting equipped with presence and twilight detectors

- Double glazing and thermal insulation

- We read our water and electricity meters every month to better manage consumption.

- No air-conditioning in the bedrooms, but wooden shutters and double-glazed windows to keep in the heat or cool.

- No carpets in the hotel (allergies, dust mites, hygiene).

- When renovating the hotel, we use only eco-labelled paint.

- Our local laundry www.blanchisserie-oleron.fr has equipped its 3 machines with an environmentally-friendly ozone washing system. This technology enables complete disinfection and decontamination against covid-19 in accordance with standard NF EN 14476.

- Choice of "Ecolabel" products for hotel maintenance - pump-controlled dosage - staff training

- Ecolabel and environmentally-friendly reception products

- Participation in the local economy by choosing to buy locally (materials, plants, jams, honey, drinks, etc.) or fair-trade products (chocolate, coffee, etc.).

- We always give priority to short circuits in our purchasing choices.

- Paper communication only on recycled paper or paper from forests managed according to sustainable development principles

- Informing customers about our sustainable development actions and our commitment to preserving and respecting the environment

- Bicycles available for hire at the hotel to promote environmentally-friendly travel.

- A free shuttle at your disposal in July and August. The shuttle offers 3 routes around the island (32 stops). The Atlantic contributes financially to its operation.


Waste management :

- Reducing waste production by abolishing individual packaging, particularly in the breakfast service

- Sorting and recycling glass, paper, packaging, metals, cardboard, etc.

- Recycling ink cartridges (to support international handicap initiatives)

- Composting of natural waste (high-quality natural fertilizer)

- Used battery box available at reception


Around us :

- Raising employee awareness of water and energy efficiency

- Passing on these values to our family, employees and friends

- We are active members of several environmental protection associations


You too can participate:

- Every day, dozens of liters of water and detergent are used to wash barely used towels. You can put the towels you want us to change on the floor and keep the ones you keep on the towel rails.

- Turn off the light when you leave a room

- For your travels, think of alternative solutions: bike, shuttle, walk...

- Don't leave your heating on when you open your windows. 19°C is the ideal temperature for a good night's sleep. When you leave your room, turn the heating down or off.

- Notify your accommodation provider of any water leaks.

- Remember to turn off the water when brushing your teeth.

- Don't leave garbage behind when you go for a walk (cigarette butts, paper, cans... have no place in nature and are toxic for fauna, flora and... humans (chewing gum takes 5 years to degrade, a paper tissue 3 months).

- Drink tap water, take water bottles to the beach and for your walks.

- Limit tourist brochures to themes that interest you.

- Preserve the quality of the aquatic environment. Don't pour any liquid products (grease, etc.) down the drain. The water system could be permanently polluted.
