Descriptif
The Fort-Royer site is a century-old village of wooden oyster huts scattered among the oyster beds and channels in a nature reserve. You can visit this authentic estate with a guide, who will show you all about oyster farming, from yesterday's traditions to today's work, from breeding in the oyster beds, to maturing in the oyster beds, to working in the huts. Fort-Royer is a working oyster farm that defends the natural oyster and puts a capital letter on the letters of nobility of refining.
One-hour guided tour "The oyster, this curious animal and its funny history, then the job of the peasants of the sea" or two-hour guided tour "La Verte Marennes-Oléron and its unique Merroir, the little Fortiroyennes stories that made the great History of the oyster".
The association also offers :
- An outing to the rocky coast of Oléron. At low tide, the foreshore reveals its treasures: seaweed, crustaceans, anemones, shellfish... A responsible discovery of the coastline to understand this particular ecosystem and the need to protect it. And for the more curious, a taste of seaweed as the sea rises...
- A botanical walk to discover the plants of the dunes and salt marshes. Nature-lovers will be able to "Taste, Smell and Discover!" the unique flora of the estate, and listen to the history of these plants that have been indispensable allies in the past.
- Unusual! Gourmet treasure hunt! Six loops to discover oysters and oyster farming, the flora and fauna of the seaside, the heritage of the site and the coastline, the lair of the ROYA witch and a treasure hunt: riddles to solve, clues to find, routes to identify... Adventurers will have to observe, memorize and use their ingenuity. Two tastings included!
- A discovery of the port of La Cotinière "Paroles de femme de marin pêcheur": the world of these salty mouths and their profession, which eats souls and men!
- A hike between sea and forest: an iodized escapade between pine forest and warm sand, discovering the flora and fauna, the ancient trade of the gemmakers, mussel farming...
- For children aged 6-12 (school vacations), during the guided tour of the oyster farm: a playful P'tit Scientifique workshop to learn about oyster farming, shellfish and seaside plants. Make 2 little souvenirs!
Tastings are available on site, but only at the end of our tours!
