Descriptif
Veillon, Bellanger, Saint Dominique, Intendance: so many little streets that conceal here and there wells, fish poles and outside staircases - symbols of peasant life in days gone by, when Dionysians were mainly farmers or winegrowers.
Along the way, you'll notice a number of public wells still in good condition. They were installed in the center of the local "cantons" - open squares on which the well was located, the water for which was shared among the inhabitants, and where the events of village life took place.
Houses were naturally built in the immediate vicinity of these water points, at a time when there was no network delivering fresh water to the home.
Many wells have retained the characteristic look of their structure: a vast, waist-high stone curbstone, with a notch in the curbstone to get as close as possible to the bucket, usually hooked onto a pulley supported by a metal tripod.
Their scattered presence testifies to the presence of water throughout the commune.
