Conférence UTLMO : Les images rupestres du Sahara, découvertes et perspectives
Dates & opening times
Descriptif
Since their discovery in 1850, the rock paintings and engravings of the Sahara have revealed a fascinating world that long predates cave art. They have been the subject of countless studies, but it's only in the last few years that this enormous documentation has really begun to reveal its secrets.
Jean-Loïc Le Quellec is Director of Research Emeritus at the Institut des Mondes africains (CNRS). He is particularly interested in the relationship between myths and rock images, and is the author of some forty books and numerous publications in scientific journals.
A specialist in prehistoric images of the Sahara, he has led major missions in Libya, notably for UNESCO, but has also worked in other Maghreb countries, as well as in southern Africa and Ethiopia.
Conference in partnership with the Visions d'Afrique and Contes en Oléron festivals.
