Conférence UTLMO : La transition énergétique
Dates & opening times
Descriptif
The energy transition is a response to growing energy needs, but above all to the threat of climate change linked to global warming.
Most of the world's energy needs are still met by fossil fuels: coal, oil and natural gas, which account for over 80% of consumption. These carbon-based energies emit large quantities of carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas that causes global warming. We therefore need to reduce the use of fossil fuels and replace them with so-called non-carbon energies: nuclear power, if the population agrees, and renewable energies (hydro, wind, solar, geothermal, ocean energy, even hydrogen).
The conference will take stock of energy production and consumption, review the different forms of energy and attempt to map out the way forward. It will also look at the energy supply on the island of Oleron.
