TRÉSORS de l'île" Festival
Dates & opening times
Description
With its 175 km², Oléron is the largest island in mainland France. Since it was connected to the mainland (1966), it has become part of the maritime imaginary of seaside tourist regions. Here, this imaginary world presents two figures: the fisherman and the oyster farmer. And yet, in 1966, these occupations had barely existed on the island for a century. Sailors passed off the island, but few were native to it. Those who couldn't avoid an accident at Grand Coûte, or in the dunes of Saint-Trojan, could count on the assistance of the lifeguards at sea. The people of Oleron were also wreck raiders, collecting shellfish and trapping fish in the locks built by men and women. Facing the mainland, from the Middle Ages onwards, abbots and lords had conquered the mudflats and promoted the profession of salt worker. The salt marsh is born, lives and when it dies, the farmer takes over from the saunier, on the marais gât. This meadow torn from the sea and the tanne (polder) have increased the island's agricultural potential, long dedicated to vines fertilized with sart, the local seaweed. So, whatever the activity, the Island's know-how has emerged from the nourishing sea, and this fully justifies the holding of this event.
Thierry SAUZEAU godfather of the 2025 festival
Encourage a better understanding of our territory, the sea and its challenges,
discover our local heritage, knowledge and know-how,
celebrate with songs from the sea, discover authors from Oleron and the Poitou-Charentes region
to tell the story of the sea and our region - this is the aim of the sustainable development approach we wish to share with you!
