Approved and adapted beaches
For several years now, theIle d'Oléron has been committed to a vast program of beach accessibility. Our aim is to enable everyone to enjoy the pleasures of swimming. On the Ile d'Oléron, as well as on the Marennes beach, you'll find a range of equipment available throughout the summer: tiralos, seahorses, audioplages, access ramps, adapted toilets...
The island of Oléron now boasts 3 beaches with the Tourism and Handicap label: theBoirie beach to the north of the island at Saint-Denis d'Oléron, theplage de Gatseau in the south at Saint-Trojan-les-Bains and the plage de Boyardville on the west coast.
Audio Plage
Audio Plage is a device enabling visually impaired people to swim independently , thanks to audio beacons placed at sea and a wristwatch. The beacons at sea, when interrogated by the user via the wristwatch, announce the position of the beacon (beacon number, distance from the beach). The first-aid post is equipped with a radio alert case, enabling rescuers to be warned in the event of a problem. This device can be used at high tide and during surveillance hours.
Bathing chairs
Spread over 9 lifeguard stations, 12 bathing chairs (7 Tiralos and 5 Hippocampes) are made available to people with reduced mobility by the Communauté de communes de l'île d'Oléron. The loan is free of charge and without reservation (limited to 1 hour in the event of simultaneous requests), and is the responsibility of the user. The 9 lifeguard posts equipped with bathing chairs have limited grating access. However, for reasons of terrain, these accesses do not always meet accessibility standards.
TiralosA wheelchair with floating armrests, the tiralo facilitates movement over soft or uneven terrain, but does not enable the user to move around independently. They are particularly suitable for dependent people.
SeahorseDesigned to meet the needs of active disabled people, this wheelchair enables the user to get into the water independently and move around on the sand.
